"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is an American fantasy television series developed by J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay for Amazon Prime Video. The series is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" and explores the major events of Middle-earth's Second Age. The story is based on the appendices of "The Lord of the Rings" and depicts the creation of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the last alliance between Elves and Men. The series features a large international cast and watt filmed in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
